Eighty hectares of purpose-built lake, two full-size cables, one pro obstacle system and a beginner cable that actually teaches. Thömle is the European cable park that every other cable park quietly compares itself to.

01The main cable

The full-size cable at Thömle runs 950 metres with six towers — plenty of distance for progression and recovery between features. The line speed is adjustable per session, so beginner days and pro events can co-exist.

Morning sessions are typically reserved for the pro-level obstacle line. By mid-afternoon the riders rotate and beginners get more breathing room. Plan your day accordingly.

02The beginner cable — why it matters

Thömle's system-2.0 beginner cable is the single biggest differentiator versus every other European park. Short laps (50 metres), gentle line pull, and a low-consequence start make it the best first-day experience in Europe.

Two-hour intro sessions run five times a day in summer. Book online; they sell out. €35 including board/vest/wetsuit rental is the best value proposition in wake sports.

03Where to eat, where to sleep

The on-site restaurant does proper Schnitzel and decent pizza; nothing fancy but large portions and beer from the tap. It closes at 21:00 sharp.

The on-site campsite is the way to do Thömle if you're staying more than a weekend. €15/night, hot showers, right on the water. Book ahead in July-August.

04Getting there

Berlin (BER) is the easiest airport. Rent a car — public transport to Thömle is painful. 2.5 hours to drive, most of it autobahn.

Alternatively, Leipzig (LEJ) is 90 minutes and slightly cheaper to fly to from most European cities.

Frequently asked questions

03 questions
  • Yes — the system-2.0 beginner cable is specifically built for first-timers. Most new riders are up and riding within 30 minutes. Coaches on shore if you want them.

  • Rental is fine for first few visits (€15/day). If you're going to ride more than three times in a season, bring your own board — the rentals are functional but not inspiring.

  • Thömle is serious; Hipotels is a holiday. Thömle has the better obstacles, the better coaching, and the proper cable scene. Hipotels has warm water and a hotel next door.
